Chaplains

What is a Chaplain?

Chaplains are drawn from a variety of local churches and are motivated by their Christian faith to care for all people and communities. They are not there to preach but to offer care and comfort, and a listening ear. Chaplains have received training applicable to their role and will receive specific training for their placement if required, to enable them to visit staff in any local businesses, retail outlets, or other organisations. All Chaplains are DBS checked and take part in on-going training and supervision by LCC. All our Chaplains are volunteers.

What do they do?

Many people today find life stressful—whether caused by family difficulties, bereavement, anxiety about their jobs or any number of other concerns—and this can affect their work life, as well as their home life. LCC exists to enhance the emotional and spiritual well-being of people of any faith or no faith at all who work in, or visit, Luton. We have a team of Chaplains who can visit them in their workplace, or another agreed venue. All our Chaplains undergo relevant training and are DBS checked.

Chaplains will make regular visits, in agreement with an employer, to provide a listening ear to any employee who would like to talk to them. They do not provide a formal counselling service but are complementary to other professionals and services. They are independent from the organisation they are within and can act as a bridge between employer and employee, whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times. There is no charge to the employer or the employee for the service. Initially a Trustee will visit the business or organisation to talk through how we can help, and then a Chaplain(s) appropriate for the post will be placed with the organisation. The placement will be reviewed regularly.

How to get involved in volunteering

If you are a Christian and a regular member of a local church, then you could be a volunteer Chaplain. We are looking for people with a pastoral heart who can spare between 2-4 hours at the same time each week, and are prepared to undergo training and regular supervision. Email our administrator Jessica Rowlands to meet for an initial chat, at info@lutoncc.co.uk or Click here for more information. If you think we could help you, or you would just like to know more, then please get in contact.
